I think you are wrong. An interview is a necessary - even vital - part what should be a detailed selection process.

You're thinking of an interview for, say, an office manager when you should be thinking of an interview for a new CEO.

When the board of directors sit down with a candidate they should already have done their homework. They've got his CV, they've spoken to people. They know his qualifications, they know his reputation, they've, know how well his previous company has been doing. But the interview is still important.

They want to know the CEO's plan. What does he think the company can achieve? What is his approach going to be? Does his philosophy match theirs? What is his understanding of the market?

The same *should* be true in football. Does the manager have a preferred style of play and will it work with the current playing staff? How much investment does he think is required? A board that envisage a long term project focusing on youth will want a different manager than a club willing to spend and gamble on getting promotion, for example.

I'm in two minds about McCarthy leaving, in a way I'm glad that he left because we've had some terrible performances in the last six months. Hopefully it'll be bigger and better things for Wolves with a new manager so we'll just have to wait and see!

It's a strange feeling. I mourn the man but not the manager. I'm sad he's gone but I'm excited that we might start playing better. He was a fine ambassador for Wolves and, given that, I imagine that many people outside of the club will wonder why we got rid of him. But the team haven't done it on the pitch for about six months and that's what matters.

Now? A temporary appointment of an experienced manager followed by an early appointment at the end of the season of a progressive manager who can see the way that football is changing.

Thank you for the article, really good stuff.
What can you say about the guy.... A top top player and a real old fashioned type of goal scorer. As a fan you were always nervous if he was in the lineup against your team and 9 times out of 10 you knew he would pop up out of nowhere with a goal. I think it's time for him to hang up his boots and enjoy some time off... Thanks for all the goals Pippo.

It is first now that MM has a decent squad to chose from - compared to our first two seasons - not to the other clubs.
